A Shamanic Interpretation of the End of the Mayan Calendar

According to Mayan researcher Carl Johan Calleman, October 28th, 2011 marks the "official" end of the Mayan calendar. Here's a little background. Regarding the Mayan calendar, the Maya had the ability to understand time as a formative principle. Time was holy. Time formed history, not the other way round. Time was not a succession of days; it was the enactment of a cosmic plan. Their Long Count (succession of suns) calendars contained the map of this plan. (This info is from The Complete Idiot's Guide to 2012 by Synthia and Colin Andrews.)

Despite the prophecies of doom, most people believe that the end of the Mayan calendar signifies a time for purification and awakening --both personally and globally. Shamans from indigenous tribes around the world believe that humanity is leaving the Age of Separation and entering the Age of Illumination. The old ideas and beliefs are dying to make way for the new thoughts, new attitudes, and new awareness. It is anticipated that human consciousness has undergone an evolution of consciousness which brings us an abundance of higher spiritual experiences and greater human potential for peace and love.

The date of December 21, 2012 is a Winter Solstice and a very rare and amazing astrological event where our solar system will align with the central sun of our galaxy --also called the Milkyway. This alignment, which the Mayan wrote as happening every 5,126 years, will create an eclipse of the galactic center, and after December 21, new cosmic energy will stream into the galaxy in sync with the starting of the New Age, as predicted in the Mayan creation story.

So, from October 29th (a portal day) through to December 21, 2012 we have a Void Time -- very much like the black hole that scientist say exists in the center of the Milky Way, The Maya called the center of the Milky Way the "womb of the world", and as modern scientists also believe, this is where new stars, suns and planets are born. The Void Time means that we no longer have a map to follow. We've run out of the beaten path and are facing untrodden wilderness. This can be seen as very frightening -- or we can put on our pioneer hats (I prefer my pirate hat) and go on a new journey to discover new treasures about who we really are, why we are really here, and how we can all get along so our beautiful planet Earth can be treated as sacred and vital to our existence!

When a shaman enters a void space, she/he is very aware that all that can first show up is what lies in the darkest corners of the subconscious.
Remember Luke Skywalker going into the cave in "The Empire Strikes Back"? He asks Yoda what is in there, and Yoda replies "only what you take with you."

So we have a golden opportunity for 418 to choose to become aware of our dark material, and to choose to transform it. And of course, the transformation occurs through acknowledgement, acceptance, compassion, forgiveness, and making a faith gesture for what will enable you to love your Self unconditionally.
So, welcome to the Void Time, and remember that you have the power to choose between Fear or Love.
I'd choose Love if I were you!
